Top Ten Tips for dressing “fabulously” while pregnant

  1. Accept that you will put on weight and embrace your newfound curves!
  1. Tights are a pregnant woman’s “little black dress” as they are stretchy, comfortable and you can wear them through any season.
  1. If you are a “heels girl” then wedges are a great transition as they will still give you the height but are far more comfortable on those swollen ankles and feet.
  1. Longer tops are essential because as your bump grows the hem on your top will get shorter and shorter. Exposing skin when you are pregnant is never appropriate.
  1. The number one investment for any expecting mother is well fitting, confident boosting underwear. You need to feel sexy from the inside out. Your bra size will inevitably change a few times from the start of your pregnancy right up until you stop breastfeeding, so ensure that your underwear accommodates the changes.
  1. Wearing bold, overwhelming patterns when you are heavily pregnant will only enhance your fuller figure and draw attention to the areas that you would prefer to ignore. Stick to solid, neutral colours and use bright and bold accessories to lift your outfit.
  1. Try to avoid spending too much on a new wardrobe when you are pregnant as the chances of you wanting to revisit those clothes after the birth are very slim! Try to incorporate existing items in your wardrobe and just buy the following;
  • Get one pair of pants, a skirt, a jacket, a dress, and a tunic top. Either you can buy these in one size larger than your usual fit or you can buy them from a maternity wear store. Stick to basic colours like black, grey and white.
  • Buy a pair of maternity jeans in either a bootleg, slight flare or skinny leg (depending on your preference) and alternate them with different footwear and tops. A comfortable pair of jeans will become your staple wardrobe item.
  • If you want to fit into your pre-pregnancy wardrobe after the birth, use it as a motivation not to “eat for two” and put on unnecessary, unhealthy weight!
